Practical case#3: How to understand and improve citizen’s experience of public space?
Collecting data regarding citizen’s perception of public space is complex, notably due to its sensitive dimension. The learning objective was to imagine, prototype and test new objects aimed for interaction and dialogue with citizens. The challenge was reframed around 3 topics: cleanness and eco-friendly behaviors, perception of public spaces and connections with surrounding streets. After several sessions of interviews, field observation and creativity, the group chose 5 main ideas to be prototyped (a movable waste receptacle, a tool for dialog allowing to adopt an overhanging view on the public space, etc.). The overall process was presented to a group of municipal agents and representatives of departments, which could potentially benefit from the outcomes of the sessions: public works, participation, small business, etc.
