Practical case#3: Fostering eco-friendly behaviour at work from a cultural and social perspective

Paris region is the first energy consumer in the country. In this regard, the Parisian administration, due to its size and the importance of its premises, faces a challenge in terms of environmental resilience and of exemplary role. The municipality has thrown diverse initiatives to foster eco-friendly behavior: communication, adaptation of offices, etc. Nevertheless, the social and cultural dimension, complementary to other approaches, hasn’t been tackled yet. The learning objective for this case was to experiment methods of observation, specifications development and prototyping. 4 prototypes were built, tested and evaluated: a book-swapping box, a bicycle repair shop, the stairs in which you’re the hero (aimed to get people to use the stairs instead of the elevator), a circular cafeteria. These received excellent feedbacks from the agents.
