Practical case#2: Improving a public library services from a user’s perspective

How will public libraries change in the future, taking into account a broader approach to knowledge sharing, topics such as social innovation or civic participation, and therefore embedding new services? This case consisted in identifying on-going uses of one of Mulhouse public libraries and imagining new ones so the site would attract more visitors; the case was meant to lay an early stage for an ambitious revamping of the library building. The learning objective for the case was to experiment in situ approach to tackling uses challenges within a public space. Several sessions of interviews, immersion and creativity led to 6 new ideas to be further researched and prototyped during the summer (customised and creative exterior guiding signage, new offers such as lending not only books, but also outdoor games, etc.).
